The stranger across from me.... I said Hey to.

Image
"Hey!" I say as I walk up to a person that has been sitting next to me all day in the library. They look up as if perplexed by this new found human interaction. Perhaps, I have committed a faux pas by introducing my self in such a place. I blunder onward and say "I noticed you sitting there alone for a while. I was thinking that I may get some lunch. Would you care to join me or maybe you want me to bring you back something?" I await an answer that seems to take eons to come. I often wonder why it is so strange to talk to strangers. Maybe it is the mindset I grew up with,  but I like thinking that a stranger is only a friend I have yet to meet. Finally, after a few moments, they respond. "Umm, sure... I wouldn't mind going for some food." We walked to the dining hall of the college and ate our food as we discussed some hobbies. It turns out that we both like to hike. We talked about a hike we both like to make to a magical and fantastic place called Co

As the Crow Flies

Image
A crow once flew through New York City. It landed on a lamp pole in Central Park to watch the people live their lives. The bird watched a small child chase a ball as his mother talked to the other parents at the playground. The bird was intrigued by the child's ball. It watched as the child rolled the ball around the Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park. The bronze made the sun glisten and disoriented the crow for a moment. It flew down to the ground where there was plenty of spilled snacks children carelessly threw on the ground as they played. To the Crow's delight, he was able to luxuriate his hunger. The Crow had almost all but forgotten about the boy and his little ball when he heard the child cry. The boy had lost his ball. The Crow looked around and took flight. He saw the ball hiding behind a tree. The Crow dove down and retrieved the ball which was about twice the size his size. However, the bird grew attached to his unwitting meal provider and wanted to do somet

A Wonderful Time

"Hey there, want to play ball? Want to go to the park and run around like how we used to" You try to get up but your legs are old and the arthritis is kicking in. "Maybe tomorrow, though I don't know how many tomorrows may be left for an old guy like me. We can always just sit here, together on this couch, right?" you rest your weary head upon my lap, "please scratch behind my ears, tell me I'm a good boy!" your tail gives a small wag as I indulge your requests. "I have given you all my love over the years. In return, you kept me well fed, walked me, through the rain, through the snow. Oh, how we loved to play in the snow. I can still remember the first time we went out into it together." I get up slowly and help you to the car. "Why are you sad, are we going to the park?" You lick my face as the tears stream from my eyes. "It's ok, it's alright Big Guy, I wish you could understand that I know you've done so mu

A Stroll Through The Woods

Image
I am running through a list in my head of the things I will need for a light hike. A water pack, good shoes, speaker, portable charger, wallet, and cell phone are the bare essentials needed for a good hike. I am looking to take a hike that is just a  few miles from the summit of a small mountain in New Hampshire. The park area is called Wantastiquet Mountain. As I start walking the leaves crunch under my feet. The air is crisp and clean. There is a distinct smell of nature emanating from all around me. The path gets steeper and steeper as I climb the mountain. I come to a rock face, to go around is more dangerous than to just climb up. I take a sip of water from my Camelbak and start my ascent. Slowly and carefully I make my way up. The air is cold but energizing. I make it up to the summit of the mountain finally. I look around and see the treetops and a small town in the distance. At that moment amongst the beauty and awe of nature, I realize something very very important. I look in

When I was just about a week old I was adopted by a kind and loving family. They brought me to New York where I grew up in a small town called Malverne. It was a small town but had more than enough to keep me content. As I got older I developed a passion for history and museums. I would spend hours upon hours watching history videos on YouTube and the History Channel. After High School, I went to SUNY Oneonta where I graduated a fully certified secondary history teacher. While I was trying to find a full-time position I was working as a substitute in a district that had a high population of ESOL students. I began to really develop my idea of how I can  make a difference . I hope that you will see that I am as good a teacher a
